The Freedom Provided by a Vertical Wheel Chair Lift

A person with physical disability due to aches and pains of certain medical conditions can now move with more independence and freedom using a vertical wheel chair lift. Wheel chairs are commonly-used around the world today. The fact that a person has to use a chair due to injury or disease is sad but the great and wonderful thing is that we do have a solution and that is the wheel chair. And while the wheel chair provides greater mobility there are some challenges that have to be faced by a person who must use one. We can look at a solution to one of those challenges here.

Landings, steps, narrow doors, vehicles, and stairs are just some of the points you have to consider, though, when it comes to getting a vertical wheel chair lift.  It can be literally impossible for a person to navigate from the first floor to the third floor or even get onto the landing but the solution comes in the form of an elevator. The wheelchair lift makes it possible for a person confined to the chair to access various levels of buildings and landings.

Compared to your average elevator, the dimensions of this wheel chair lift are smaller and can be applied in more than one situation. A vertical lift can be used in:

* A home
* A business building
* On a landing

The lift in a home works in the same manner as any full-sized elevator would. It allows access from one floor to another. The only difference is that it is smaller and that it is without the sealed off elevator shaft.

Since some public buildings don’t have enough space or access for a wheel chair ramp, they simply solved th problem by installing a wheel chair platform. Most of the wheel chair platforms function in the same manner and that is:

Buttons located within the person’s reach are also inside the lift. You just push to select the floor you want to go to and you will go there. These vertical elevators go up or down and the doors open up with power. Some of them have to have a button pushed to open the elevator while others do so automatically.

Vertical wheel chair lift usually have limited space though. Just enough for maybe one other person and the person in the wheel chair. That way the wheel chair can be pushes out if necessary and is not self propelled. To get in the elevator a button is pushed and the door or a gate will open.

All one has to do is to roll the wheel chair into the lift and close the door or the gate. Push the button and up or down you go....

These lifts are run with either hydraulics or by electricity. Upon reaching the destination the door can then be opened and the wheel chair can then roll out of the vertical lift.

Wheel chairs provide the mobile-impaired with the ability to move at ground level, but the lifts further enable them to access new heights and levels in a multitude of settings. Whether at home, work or a professional building you can often see the results in the form of a vertical wheel chair lift.
